Determine if your solar fence lights mount sideways or upright
Some designs of fence solar lighting can be installed either vertically or horizontally. Other solar fence lights designs do best if they are mounted upright at the top edge of the fence. Some of this depends on how the built-in solar panel on the fence solar lighting is positioned. The solar fence lights’ solar panel should be aimed toward the sun as much as possible.
Make sure your fence solar lighting will get enough light
Depending on what is around your fence and how it is positioned, solar fence lights placed on the fence may or may not get enough sunlight. All fence solar lighting will perform best and be brightest if they get as many hours of direct sunlight per day as possible. If the solar fence lights are on the top of the fence, then simply make sure that the fence solar lighting are shaded as little as possible by trees, overhangs or buildings. If the solar fence lights are mounted sideways on the fence, then a south-facing or west-facing fence may give the fence solar lighting more hours of direct sunlight per day.
Decide how many solar fence lights you want along your fence and how far apart you want them
Do you want a lot of fence solar lighting all along your fence, perhaps even with solar fence lights in several rows, or do you want just a few solar fence lights in certain spots on your fence ? Where you put your fence solar lighting and how many solar fence lights you use depends on the look and results you are hoping to achieve. If the fence solar lighting that you have can be mounted on the side of your fence, then you may want to have fence solar lighting at more than one height, perhaps alternating with one lower and one higher. You may even want to install some solar fence lights along walls as well.
Measure the spots for your fence solar lighting
Once you have decided where you want your solar fence lights, measure to make sure they will be mounted squarely and, if necessary, measure the spots for your fence solar lighting to make sure they will be at a uniform height. Mark the spots where it is necessary to drill any holes for your solar fence lights. Make sure that you allow for the full size of the solar fence lights, so they will not be sticking out where you don’t want them to. Also make sure that the fence solar lighting will not be in the way of anything that might run into them. You would not want a gate or lawn equipment to hit your fence solar lighting.
